Mysterious white powder prompts call

The Columbia Falls Police Department was called in when a renter at a Diane Road apartment building reported there was white powder all over the main hallway — and that it didn’t smell like baby powder. It was later determined that someone had fired a fire extinguisher in the hall.

A pair of youths were warned that they could be charged with a crime if they were again found on the roof of building like they were Wednesday on First Street East.


A man contacted the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office after a woman blatantly violated a protection order he had filed against her. He said he was passing the Olney Dumpsters when he saw her sitting there in the dark in her vehicle, and that when he passed, she came up behind him, swerved in front of him and then slammed on the brakes.

Several people have reported homeless people sleeping under vehicles and decks at a Southside Drive apartment complex.

An angry Amdahl Lane man reported there were about 10 cows out in the road. It is an ongoing issue.

Narcotics were found to be missing from a Grand Drive pharmacy in Bigfork.


A Whitefish Police officer contacted the Kalispell Police Department after he nearly hit a boy riding a skateboard down the middle of U.S. 93 North at West Reserve Drive.

An officer advised a group of youths to be aware that their face paint was making people nervous after they were reported standing in front of a First Avenue East North store looking suspicious and possibly stealing. They had actually been waiting for a friend who was inside the store.

A 10th Street East resident reported someone in a car with a loud exhaust drove onto his property around 3 a.m., tearing up the grass.

A confusing crash reported to the Whitefish Police Department was sorted out when the vehicle’s owner said his son had been driving the car — which was found smashed into a tree — and that he was OK and would be contacting an officer shortly.

An observant man reported people in a vehicle on Wisconsin Avenue using lighters on something in foil.

A motorist was arrested for drunken driving following a traffic stop on Wisconsin Avenue.

A Baker Avenue bank employee found an envelope containing $1,000.
