It didn’t come easy for the Stillwater Christian School boys soccer team at the Montana Christian Athletic Association state tournament.

The Cougars managed to capture their 11th straight championship Saturday at SCS with a 6-4 overtime win over Yellowstone County Home School.

Stillwater, 15-4-2 for the season, on Friday escaped with a 4-3 victory over Heritage Christian School in the semifinals.

“We knew it was gonna be tougher, and it was,” SCS coach Tim Anderson said of the finale.

“Yellowstone was undefeated (on the MCAA season). So were we.”

Julian Emond scored in the first overtime and Joe King added another goal in the second OT to keep the Cougars’ championship streak alive.

“This was truly one of the best,” Anderson said of state championships.

“It was a stunning finish.

“Julian Emond rifled a shot to the far post from 25 yards out,” Anderson said of the first goal in overtime.

“Joe King capped the victory with a composed finish.”

“Our players played with heart, passion and perseverance. They did not panic when we were down two players and two goals with only 10 minutes to go. I admire their discipline.”

Stillwater took a 2-0 lead on two goals by King, 18 and 32 minutes.

The Cougars led 2-1 at the half.

Yellowstone scored three-straight goals in the second half to go on top 4-2.

But the Cougars responded to the challenge when Schuylar Kauffman and Emond scored at 70 and 79 minutes to tie it and force overtime.

Emond’s goal was via a penalty kick.
