Janice Galloway Dow, 67

Janice Galloway Dow was loving, generous and enthusiastic. Her sudden death on Oct. 23, 2013, has left a void in the lives of her loved ones that will be deeply mourned.

Born on April 16, 1946, in Evanston, Ill., to William and Nina Galloway, Janice valued family above all else. Her heart overflowed with love for Nina, William and her older brother, Bob.

Nina’s marriage to Mike DeStefano and the subsequent births of Janice’s younger brother Michael and sister Teresa completed the family unit and allowed her to further share her unwavering love. Janice was passionate in her role as big sister.

Janice approached each new stage of life with excitement. She attended Iowa Wesleyan College, Southern Illinois University and studied acting under Stella Adler in New York City. She married Robert Dow in 1966 and began her professional career in print advertising.

She treated everyone as a friend and made each person she met feel important. These gifts helped her to excel in her work at The Skokie News, San Diego Magazine, Warner Bros. Studios, the Santa Barbara Independent, The Daily Inter Lake and Montana Living Magazine.

Janice aspired to be an actress and participated in community theater in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, Calif. She loved the movies and television, and there was nobody better to watch the Academy Awards with.

Her home was her haven. She enjoyed cooking, reading, working in the yard, and puttering around the house. Always a fan of the dramatic, Janice continually rewrote screenplays of her life story. She loved music and dancing, beach days, parties and a glass of white wine.

Janice celebrated her friends’ and family's successes and supported them through hard times. Her dedication to written correspondence enabled her to maintain lifelong friendships and solid relationships.

She is survived by her brother Michael, his wife Lisa, and her nephews Michael and Christopher DeStefano, of Vista, Calif.; sister Teresa DeStefano of Lakeside; and niece Ursula, her husband Chauncey, and great-nephews Rylin and Jasper Wilde, of Kalispell. She also leaves behind three dearly loved cats.

A celebration of Janice’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Village Green Community Center. All who knew Janice are invited.
