You read it right... mortar shell hits dish

An explosive problem on Foothill Road was reported to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office after a man damaged a business’ satellite dish with a mortar shell. The man had reportedly shot off his cannon previously and one of the shells landed very close to an employee.

A drunk woman was seen stumbling out of a River Street bar in Bigfork. A passerby said the woman struggled to make it to her vehicle, and when he left she was still looking for her keys.

A Kalispell woman stopped by the sheriff’s office to make a report after a bus driver asked to let her children off the bus would not allow them to disembark.

A concerned Bigfork resident reported she knew a woman who was wanted in another country, but when deputies investigated, they found no such orders for the woman’s arrest.

Someone broke into a newspaper vending machine on Batavia Lane and stole between $50 and $60 in change while leaving the newspapers behind.

A Winchester Street resident called to report a crime after someone dented their mailbox and cut the wires to their sprinkler system control box within just a day or two of one another.

Someone broke into a U.S. 2 East business, taking several tires, wheels, and other car parts. Another report came in less than 40 seconds later of a large number of items stolen from a storage area located in a nearby field. The recovered items included sleeping bags, food, clothes, and other items.

A big black steer in a ditch along Helena Flats Road drew a call to law enforcement from a passerby who reported concern that it might wander into traffic.

A man riding a yellow dirt bike on Hungry Horse Boulevard was reported after running a red light and nearly hitting several pedestrians.


The Kalispell Police Department was contacted by an emergency room employee who reported a patient had just checked in who was assaulted and knocked unconscious at a U.S. 2 West bar.

A woman reported her neighbor’s dog attacked her dog, which was now bleeding badly, when she walked her dog past the Fourth Avenue West home. The attack was found to have happened on her neighbor’s property, not on public property.

A big explosion reported near a U.S. 2 West theater turned out to have been caused by a bird that flew into a power line, causing an emergency generator to kick on.

A man and woman were advised not to have any contact with another woman after an incident in which the second woman beat on the couple’s door, pushed it open, then punched the first woman in the face.

A concerned observer reported seeing a man in a wheelchair wearing an orange jumpsuit on Fifth Avenue East that the observer thought might have come from the jail.

A Blue Crest Drive man reported his neighbor was harassing him and had already accused him of stealing. The man’s son later found a note from the neighbor in their door telling the man to return the stolen items or he would pay.

An officer was unable to locate the strong smell of marijuana reported emanating from a room at a U.S. 93 South property.

A man agreed to come in for an interview with police after his girlfriend reported he assaulted her at two locations Monday afternoon resulting in her visiting the emergency room.

A pair of thefts were reported from lockers at a Kalispell school, one of them involving a $150 pair of headphones.

A passerby asked police to check on a woman he saw curled up, laying in the wet grass in front of the health department on First Avenue East.

An accidental 911 caller told the dispatcher “aww, oops!” then hung up.


The Whitefish Police Department is investigating several thefts from vehicles Monday night. Police Chief Bill Dial said six vehicles were hit, and is reminding residents to lock the doors of their vehicles and not to leave any valuables inside.

It took an officer to convince a boy with truancy problems to go to school Monday morning. The boy’s mother called police after he refused to get out of her vehicle and go into the building. She brought the child to the police department, where he spoke with the officer, who then gave him a ride back to school.

An upset woman arrested for drunk driving during a traffic stop on Spokane Avenue started banging her head against the cage while being transported to the hospital for a blood draw. After the hospital visit she was taken to jail.
