Football: Whitefish trips Havre
HAVRE — Luke May threw three touchdown passes and ran for another as Whitefish opened the Class A football season for a third-straight year by downing Havre.
Saturday’s final score — 27-14.
May, a junior quarterback, was 14 of 22 passing for 253 yards. He did not throw an interception.
He also led the ground game with 152 yards on 18 carries. His touchdown run was from a yard out.
Whitefish’s Chris Park rushed for 109 yards on 10 carries and had one reception for 19 yards and a touchdown.
Jed Nagler was May’s favorites receiver in this contest. He had six receptions for 154 yards and a touchdown.
Jack Streibich was next with four catches for 63 yards.
“I thought we played well,” Whitefish coach Chad Ross said.
“Overall, we didn’t have any turnovers. We made less mistakes than they did.”
Ross was happy with the ground game. The Bulldogs rushed for 279 yards on 34 carries.
“We ran the ball better than I expected,” he said.
“I’m pleasantly surprised.”
Whitefish continues with nonconference play with a Friday road game at Browning.
