May, Sandry lead local postseason honors
Luke May and Josh Sandry piled up accolades after taking the Whitefish Bulldogs and Bigfork Vikings to the semifinals in their respective classes as postseason football awards covered the Flathead Valley on Tuesday with the release of the Class A and B all-conference and all-state football teams.
May, a junior quarterback, threw for 2,408 yards and 29 touchdowns while guiding the Bulldogs to an undefeated Northwest A record and an 8-3 overall finish after dropping their semifinal matchup 37-13 to Butte Central.
May was tabbed first team all-conference at quarterback and cornerback, Northwest A offensive co-MVP and first team all-state for his effort under center during the Bulldogs’ dynamic season.
In all, Whitefish had 23 all-conference selections with Jed Nagler, Jack Streibich, Chris Park, Chaffin Ross, Logan Wynn and Brian FauntLeroy adding all-state honors to their first-team Northwest A accomplishments.
Columbia Falls landed four players on the all-state team led by offensive threat Ty Morgan. Morgan, who shared Northwest A offensive co-MVP honors with May, earned first-team Northwest A selections at slot back, return specialist and cornerback. He was joined on the all-state team by Spencer Ross, Ike Schweikert and Trevor Houston.
Libby’s Zach Crace and Michael Curtis were named to the Northwest A first-team while Polson’s Matthew Rensvold and Joe Gallatin were the Pirates’ first-team selections.
The Bigfork Vikings’ Josh Sandry rivaled his Class A quarterback counterpart with multiple accolades. In addition to being named to the Class B all-state team, Sandry was a first-team District 7B selection at quarterback, defensive back, kicker and return specialist. His athleticism across the field allowed the Vikings to claim a 9-2 record, reaching the state semifinals before losing to Huntley Project 27-6—the lone Viking touchdown coming on Sandry’s 63-yard run.
Sandry was joined on the all-state team by fellow Vikings Logan Mejak, Vinny Quirk, Grant Ozegovich, Isaac Martel and Adam Jordt.
Eureka’s Garret White, James Dunn and Brandon Conard earned first-team District 7B honors for the Lions.
