Denver band helps Crush celebrate anniversary
The Denver band Fox Street, named Westword’s Best Traditional Rock Band of 2013, play the Crush Lounge in Whitefish on March 1 at 10:30 p.m. at Crush as part of Crush’s one-year anniversary party.
Craig Barton opens from 8 to 10 p.m.
“These last three years have been amazing,” Fox Street front man Jonathan “Skippy” Huvard said. “From touring the country with The New Mastersounds to headlining our first theater show in Denver to the Denver Westword award, we can feel the excitement. We just found out we’re going to Europe this fall which is beyond anything we ever expected when we started all of this. Our live show is the best it’s ever been. While we still bring the party every night, there’s a level of sophistication in our sound now that only comes from tens of thousands of miles on the road and hundreds of hours of playing together live. We’re living our dream.”
Both the L.A. Times and Chicago Tribune named Fox Street a “must see” at this year’s MusikFest in Pennsylvania. Fox Street reeks of the roadhouses and West Texas honky-tonks of the Deep South that inspired their signature sound. The band features a pounding rhythm section, stellar lead guitar work and whiskey-soaked lead vocals.
Also at Crush Lounge, seven-piece zydeco band The Red Hot Blue Chips play for a Mardi Gras party on March 4. The evening also includes a costume and masquerade contest with the king and queen of Mardi Gras crowned at 9 p.m.
The cost is $10 per person, includes gumbo from Piggyback Barbecue. Doors and food service open at 7 p.m., music starts at 8 p.m
