Pot in school? Dad forgot his 'medicine'
How times have changed! A Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputy investigated a schoolyard mystery after a large quantity of marijuana was found in the backpack of a student, who “very innocently went to his teacher and said, ‘My dad left his medicine in my backpack.’” The boy’s father was found to have a medical marijuana card.
A concerned passerby reported a Whitefish Stage Road resident had about four large wild cats in cages, not protected from the elements. The passerby asked if it was legal and was told that it was, and that the animals have shelter.
A Scenic Drive resident was cited for having a dog at large and not having the dog licensed after it was found in the cold with its hair matted down under its harness, which didn’t seem to have been removed in “quite some time.” The dog was found to be otherwise healthy and was taken to the animal shelter.
After receiving a report of a herd of cows on Tamarack Creek Road that didn’t seem to be getting watered or fed, an animal control officer reported the “cows look fat and happy.”
Four suitcases full of clothes and miscellaneous items were reported stolen from a Helena Flats Road storage unit, the renter of which was advised of her outstanding warrant.

The Whitefish Police Department received three reports of thefts from vehicles Monday, including two smash-and-grabs. Someone broke a window of and ransacked a vehicle on East Seventh Street, while a vehicle on Park Avenue had a window broken and a wallet stolen from the console. Another vehicle was rifled through on Park Avenue.
A man was reported to police after pulling out in front of another motorist, driving in the wrong lane, sending other motorists “scrambling to get out of the way” and nearly causing seven or more head-on collisions. The caller, who said the man was “gonna kill somebody,” was “very willing” to sign a complaint.
A Suncrest Drive resident said his neighbors painted the side of a fence — which he installed last year — that faced their property. He reported that they did so without permission.
