New series at Hockaday offers chance to see artists at work

| January 9, 2014 10:15 AM

The Hockaday Museum of Art is beginning a new “Winter Art Maker” series. Three premier local artists will perform in-gallery painting demonstrations on Thursdays in January, February and March. Attendees can observe a work in progress and benefit from the artist’s commentary and insight.  Each 90-minute session will offer an opportunity for intimate interaction with the artist.

Bigfork painter Tabby Ivy begins the series with her first session on Jan. 16 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Ivy says her journey to creative expression started gradually, initially through black and white photography before exposing her creative spirit to figurative watercolor and expressionist landscapes in oils.

“I mostly paint in my studio from photographs I take of views and vistas that inspire me," Ivy said.

Nicholas Oberling and Mark Ogle are scheduled to be the featured artists in February and March.

Hockaday members are admitted free of charge and nonmembers will be charged $10.

The Hockaday Museum of Art is located in Kalispell at 302 Second Ave. E. For more information, visit www.HockadayMuseum.org or call 755-5268.
