Basketball roundup: Robertson, Berg lift Valkyries over Florence
BIGFORK — Tessa Robertson hit the game winner and Lana Berg followed with a big steal to seal a 38-36 Class B nonconference girls basketball victory for Bigfork over Florence on Saturday afternoon.
Robertson hit a 6-foot jump shot with 10 seconds left to give Bigfork (8-2 overall) a two-point edge.
Berg then stole an inbounds pass by Florence under its basket with 1.9 seconds left to save the win for the Valkyries.
Mattison McAnally, Josie Spoklie, Miranda Campbell, Berg and Robertson all tallied six points each.
Berg collected a team-best 14 rebounds while Robertson had 10.
McAnally led in steals with five.

POLSON — The Libby Lady Loggers (3-6, 2-1), paced by Shyla Stevenson’s 10-point effort, defeated the Polson Lady Pirates (0-9, 0-2 league) in a Northwestern A conference contest.
Libby, who lead 16-15 at the half, scored just one point in the third quarter, but a 15-point assault in the final period of play was too much for Polson to overcome.
“Our defense got a couple steals at the end converted them into layups,” Libby coach Jim May said.
“That gave us a little bit of a cushion.
“We’re playing very consistent on defense, were still struggling on offense,” he added.
The Lady Pirates were led by Nichole Lake, who also scored 10 points in the contest.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Columbia Falls continued its week of great play, beating rival Whitefish in a Northwestern A conference game.
Wildcats senior center Jared Trinastich was perfect from the field, going 7 for 7, scoring 15 points and pulling down seven rebounds to lead Columbia Falls (7-2, 2-1). Alex Presnell had 13 points.
“Defensively, we played really well early on,” Columbia Falls coach Cary Finberg said.
“That set the tone. Whitefish made a couple of runs at us. We kept our poise and continued to play defense. Overall, I’m happy with the win. It’s a step in the right direction.”
Art Doorn had 16 points and EJ Havens 13 to lead Whitefish (5-6, 1-2).
