Basketball roundup: Glacier girls upend Lake City

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — Glacier cashed in at the free throw line to beat Lake City High School 61-47 on Saturday in girls nonconference basketball action.

Nearly half of Glacier’s offense came from the charity stripe as the Wolfpack hit 28 of 40 foul shots.

Cassi Hashley, who finished with a game-high 20 points, was 8 of 11 from the line. Hailee Bennett was 5 of 5 and finished with 10 points.

Glacier had four of its five starters pick up two fouls in the opening quarter, but none fouled out.

“I thought it was going to be a long night,” Glacier coach Kris Salonen said.

“Early on we struggled, but then we started hitting some shots.”

Glacier (7-3) pulled away in the second half, outscoring Lake City 41-31.

It was the third game of the week for the weary Wolfpack.

Lake City was led by Cierra Dvorak’s 13 points.

Glacier is back in action Tuesday hosting Missoula Hellgate in a Western AA contest. On Thursday, the Wolfpack hosts Flathead in the first crosstown matchup of the season.

EUREKA — Ronan pulled away in the fourth quarter to claim the Class B nonconference win over Eureka.

Eureka battled back to trail by just three, 33-30, after three quarters.

Amanda Peterson topped Eureka in scoring with 10 points.

Eureka plays at Class A Columbia Falls on Thursday.

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — Glacier never recovered from a slow start, dropping a nonconference outing to Lake City High School.

Lake City bolted to a 23-12 advantage in the first quarter and held a 42-26 lead at intermission.

J.J. Winger hit all four of his shots from 3-point range and added another field goal to finish with 14 points for Lake City (11-4).

Bryan Michaels topped Glacier with 15 points.

Glacier (5-5) is back in action Tuesday with a Western AA contest at Missoula Hellgate.

On Thursday, the Wolfpack hosts Flathead in the first crosstown matchup of the season.

EUREKA — Tim Woll hit a baseline jumper from 15 feet at the buzzer in overtime to lift Ronan to a Class B nonconference victory over Eureka.

Eureka forced overtime on a Dalton Smith layup with 13 seconds left in regulation to tie the score at 54-all.

The game went back-and-forth the entire way. Ronan led 32-31 at the half and 48-45 heading into the fourth quarter.

Woll finished with 17 points. Cedrick Earthboy led Ronan in scoring with 18 points. Kollen Wroblewski added 14.

Smith finished with 15 points. Trey Bohne tallied 14 for Eureka and Myles Griffin totaled 10.

Eureka is back in action Thursday at Class A Columbia Falls.
