Voisin a silver medalist at Winter X Games

ASPEN, Colo. — Maggie Voisin settled for a silver medal in the women’s slopestyle ski final at the Winter X Games Aspen competition on Sunday afternoon.

Under bright, sunny skies, the 15-year-old skier from Whitefish had her best run down the course on her second attempt with a 90-point score.

Wearing a black hoodie and camo ski pants, she posted an 88 on the first run to quickly grab the top position on the leader board.

Kaya Turski, 25, eventually moved ahead of Voisin with her winning 91.33 effort on her second run.

Turski, from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, was competing just five months after having reconstructive knee surgery. She now has won four X Games gold medals in this event.

Kim Lamarre, 25, of Lac-Beauport, Québec, Canada, used an 85 score on her third, and final run, to move up to third place.

Voisin becomes the youngest skier to medal at the Winter X Games.

Darian Stevens, 17, of Missoula finished seventh in a field of eight competitors.

Voisin will compete with the U.S. Olympic Team in the Sochi Olympics next month. The women’s slopestyle event will take place Feb. 11.

After her strong showing at the Winter X Games, she will be listed as one of the favorites to claim an Olympic gold medal.

Voisin is sponsored by the Whitefish Convention and Visitors Bureau (WCVB).

“Whitefish is so proud of Maggie Voisin,” WCVB spokesperson Lisa Jones said in a press release Sunday.

“For her years, she is incredibly mature as an athlete, and as an ambassador for skiing, for Whitefish, and soon for the U.S. in Sochi.”
