Dog found dead morning after fight
The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office was called about a dog running loose on Church Drive in Kalispell. The caller’s oldest dog had gotten into a fight the night before with a yellow lab with a bright orange collar that was running loose. She didn’t think much of it until she woke to find her dog had died in the night. She did not see the same dog running around and neither did an officer. The woman was advised to not wait until the next day to report animals at large.
A woman in Columbia Falls tipped and subsequently lost her canoe on the North Fork of the Flathead River. One of the people in the flipped vessel had a minor head injury that needed to be looked at.
A sexual assault in Evergreen was reported several months after-the-fact. A 16-year-old girl had passed out and was raped by a 21-year old at a party in January, according to the reporting party. The man took photos and was threatening the girl with them, the caller said. The victim filed an official report.
A woman on Addison Square in Kalispell said her husband was threatening her with a knife. She said he would deny it all if asked. Sure enough, he was asked and he said he was using the knife to eat his dinner and not to threaten anybody. Officers said he sounded very calm and she was screaming and destroying his computer equipment in the background. When deputies arrived at the residence, they determined the woman had been drinking and the husband was trying to be a mediator. They were told to stop fighting for the night.
Several juvenile campers were bothering others by asking for alcohol at a local beach. Officers told them to go to bed.
A woman called about a strange man on her porch in Lakeside. The drenched man claimed his boat had capsized and requested to use the resident’s phone, which she summarily denied.
The Kalispell Police Department picked up a heavily inebriated man in Marion and dropped him off at his “girlfriend’s” house on Sixth Avenue West. She told officers she did not want him to stay the night. Both her garage and back doors had been kicked in and she wanted officers to help her secure them.
The same man walked downtown to cause mischief, including reportedly stealing a pitcher of beer from a Kalispell bar. He was walking down the street with the pitcher when police found him. The bartender didn’t want to press charges, but wanted the pitcher back.
An intoxicated man was approaching multiple people on the street offering to sell them marijuana. His drug-dealing tactics attracted quite a bit of attention, but he left the scene shortly after the call was made.
A pregnant woman was apprehended for shoplifting at a grocery store when she said her water broke and quickly left for the hospital. The manager didn’t get her name, but wanted it in case she was faking it. All of the items were recovered.
The Columbia Falls Police Department was called about a domestic disturbance on Martha Road. A couple was fighting and the male half was threatening to jump out an upstairs window. He left through the door and ran off, leaving the woman with a fat lip.
The Whitefish Police Department responded to a motel owner on U.S. 93 who found a broken window in a room. The guest’s belongings were still in the room, and the business owner was going to contact them to find out why the window was broken.
A Marina Crest Lane resident was visited by a black bear interested in his bird feeder. He chased the bear off and brought the feeder inside, but wanted law enforcement to know about potential ursine activity.
A bartender on Central Avenue was concerned about a group of women enjoying a private party in his establishment. He was about to close and “turn them loose,” and a large group of catcalling men were just outside. He was concerned the situation could escalate and was hoping for extra patrol.
The Smith Valley Fire Department was called about a chimney fire on Vonderheide Lane in Kalispell at 3:56 p.m.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest for partner-family member assault on Gallagher Road at 12:40 p.m.
