VA health care disappoints veteran

The present scandal swirling around the Veterans Affairs is not surprising to me.

If a Vietnam veteran puts in a disability claim to the V.A., it fights him at every turn. In my opinion, the V.A. is guilty of negligent homicide. It is being committed through complacency and incompetence. I am a 100 percent service-connected veteran and I just went through a prostate operation and opted to have it done through Medicare and pay the 20 percent, rather than let the VA deal with it.

The VA would have taken months and many trips to Fort Harrison to deal with the problem, while the prostate problem very well could be cancerous and fatal. I broke off a tooth, a molar, and the V.A. wants me to go to Fort Harrison, which would take months and numerous trips down there to fix the problem. I am also in a lot of pain because of this broken tooth! This is the sort of thing that veterans have to deal with. —Sinowa Cruz, Kalispell
