Turkey victim of double hit and run
A hit and run on a turkey was reportedly attempted more than once in front of a house on Second Street, according to a caller to the Whitefish Police Department. The reporting party scooped the turkey off the road to keep it safe after observing what looked like two teenage boys in a white truck hit the turkey, only to turn around and deliberately hit the turkey again.
Three chihuahuas at a Kalispell Avenue residence tried to bite the son of a neighboring reporting party. This was not the first time the dogs wandered, and the owners were counseled to keep their dogs at home.
Two small girls, estimated to be 6-7 years old, were seen playing near the river on ice, supposedly with no parents in the area.
A suspicious backpack left for three days on the side of a building concerned a caller.
Two phones and cash were taken from a pair of unlocked vehicles on Kalispell Avenue.
A couple were reported fighting in a Central Avenue business, only to move their argument down the street near the train station. The male was observed punching the female in the face, and then chasing her. A large group became involved in trying to separate the two. Supposedly the incident is part of an ongoing issue between them, and no one wanted to press charges.
The Columbia Falls Police Department received a report that someone has been trying to reach someone from a local Baptist church for a month, as about 100 feet south of the building a water main is releasing water. The spraying water was found to be coming from an irrigation well that belongs to the church.
A caller was unsettled by a trail and bridge area in which condoms, trash and an old bed were scattered. She said there were people “partying” there at the time of the call. A photo of the garbage was taken, but no people were seen by police.
After two people were observed smoking marijuana in a vehicle parked at Lucky Lil’s just after midnight on Saturday, police investigated and found several firearms in the vehicle.
A male walking in the middle of the highway concerned a caller, but authorities claimed to be “well aware of him.”
Flooding-related calls were made to the Kalispell Police and Fire departments from North Meridian Road, Appleway Drive and Ninth Avenue West.
