Local fiddlers seek votes in worldwide talent search
Jerri Currie and her son, Cole Halford are among the 30 semifinalists in the Walmart Associate Talent Search, a worldwide talent competition.
Currie and Halford own Fiddle Sticks School of Music in Polson, and Currie taught in Kalispell for 23 years and also started the Flathead Junior Fiddlers and started the International Glacier Fiddle Festival, now run by a past student.
For their talent entry, the duo played six different instruments for the tune “Sioux City Sue” in two minutes.
They entered the search in the end of February and were chosen out of 800 entries. They are now among acts from South Africa, India, China, Argentina, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Brazil, Mexico El Salvador, Chili, and 12 states competing to be among the top six to perform at the Walmart shareholders meeting in Bentonville, Ark., in June.
