Stanley 'Olai' Solberg, 58

A memorial service for Stanley “Olai” Solberg, 58, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, at the First United Methodist Church, 322 E. 3rd St., Moscow, Idaho, with Pastor Sue Ostrom officiating. A potluck reception will follow the service at the church.

Mr. Solberg died of injuries in a pedestrian/vehicle accident in Juliaetta, Idaho, on May 3, 2014.

Olai was born on Sept. 21, 1955, in Vancouver, Wash., to Glen and Bernice (Carpenter) Solberg. He attended his schooling at Potlatch, Idaho. He married Blue Leitch at the Freeze Church outside of Potlatch. The couple moved to Bullhead City, Ariz., where he worked as a carpenter in the area. In Arizona, he was in an accident that forced the couple to return to the Palouse. The couple later divorced.

Olai lived in Moscow before moving to Juliaetta to live with his mother.

Olai worked at the Chinese Village in Moscow for seven years as a sous chef and dishwasher. He later retired due to medical reasons.

Olai loved fishing, camping, gardening and traveling. He was an avid reader and skilled mechanic. He had a passion for fixing old cars. Olai was a creative cook. He never ceased to provide his family with unconditional love.

Survivors include one daughter, Chamea, and Brad Bennett, of Kalispell; his mother, Bernice Slagle, of Juliaetta; one brother, Eric, and Victoria Solberg, of Kendrick, Idaho; and two sisters, Dianna Solberg of Moscow and Glenda and Roy Holway of Oakley, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Kevin Solberg.

Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash., handled the arrangements.
