AA football: Glacier wallops Helena Capital

HELENA — Top-ranked Glacier scored touchdowns on its first two offensive plays and led by 20 points after the first quarter in a 55-14 rout of Helena Capital on Friday night, picking up its first win in school history at Vigilante Stadium. The Wolfpack was 0-7 before the win.

Wolfpack senior Logan Jones had a monster game, running for touchdowns of 49 and 64 yards, catching a 60-yard pass for a touchdown and returning a punt 62 yards for a score. He had 12 touches for 301 all-purpose yards in the contest.

Glacier’s first score of the game came 13 seconds in, when after a failed onside kick by Capital, Jones took the first play for a touchdown. The Wolfpack would block a punt on Capital’s first drive, setting up on the Bruins’ 2-yard line. Thomas Trefney would score his first of two touchdowns on the night on the next play, giving Glacier a 13-0 lead after only two offensive plays.

The Wolfpack made explosive plays all over the field, with Jacob Janke catching a 38-yard pass for a touchdown and Sam McCamley a 20-yard pass for a touchdown just in the first quarter.

Glacier (8-0) led 55-7 before pulling its starters late in the third quarter.

Jones had a team-high 168 yards rushing on eight attempts and Trefney ran 17 times for 83 yards. Jones also had a team-high 71 yards receiving on three catches and Trefney had 47 on five.

Brady McChesney was 13 of 22 for 190 yards, four touchdowns and an interception.

Capital’s Sean Mulcahy had 10 catches for 123 yards.

Glacier outgained Capital (1-7) 482-269 in the game.
