Volleyball: Whitefish falls to Frenchtown in volleyball

WHITEFISH — Whitefish started strong offensively, but Frenchtown battled back to claim a 15-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-15 Northwestern A volleyball victory on Thursday.

Morgan Ray had 13 kills and 12 digs to lead Frenchtown. Myndie Holbrook had 17 kills for Whitefish.

“I told the girls beforehand to make sure our defense is strong so we could be competitive with Frenchtown,” Whitefish coach Sarah Scott said. “I think our defense stepped it up in this match.”

Whitefish (0-4 overall, 0-2 league) plays at the Bonners Ferry Invitational on Saturday in Idaho.

Cydney Fingerg had two blocks, 11 digs and 26 assists to help Columbia Falls sweep Stillwater Christian School in a nonconference outing at Stillwater.

Carla Nicosia had nine kills and Ciera Finberg eight to spark the Wildkats at the net.

Sarah Paolini had 15 of Stillwater’s 28 kills.

“We came into the night knowing we were up against strong competition,” Stillwater coach Diane Smith said. “I felt like the girls pushed to the end. (We) just need to clean up our passing and cut down on hitting errors.”
