POLSON — Polson hit a pair of grand slams but it wasn’t enough to outscore a hot-hitting Hamilton squad, as the Pirates fell 21-16 in a Class A nonconference softball game on Thursday.

The Pirates gave up 10 runs in the top of the fourth inning to fall behind 16-1, but were able to make up six in the home half of the frame. They scored five more runs in the fifth inning, and four in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to vault back into the lead against the Broncs.

Polson’s Sarah Rausch and Hannah Fryberger each hit grand slams in the comeback, Fryberger going 3 for 5 at the plate and finishing with a game-high five RBIs.

Hamilton senior infielder Taylor Goligoski, a University of Montana basketball and softball commit, was 4 for 6 with three RBIs.

Polson outhit the Broncs 17-15 in a game in which each team struggled to get outs. The Pirates had six errors and Hamilton had five.
