Track and field: Glacier splits close duals at Great Falls High

GREAT FALLS — Glacier came out on the top end of one tight track dual, but lost the other one on Thursday with Great Falls High at Memorial Stadium.

The Glacier boys, who won 10 of 17 events and earned points in every event but the pole vault, slipped by the Bison 73-72.

The Glacier girls, on the other hand, came up short, losing 74-71. The Wolfpack won eight events and were shutout in two — 200-meter run and 400 relay.

The lone double winner for Glacier was Austin Cook. He posted the top time in the 300 hurdles (42.84) and checked in with the best distance in the long jump (20-10 1/4).

Other individual event winners for the Glacier boys were Devin Cochran, 200 (24.11), Garrett Cebulla, 400 (55.57), Cody Martsoch, shot put (38-9 1/5), Sam Nelson, discus (137-0), Sean Kopchinsky, javelin (151-0) and Hunter Nicholson, triple jump (41-3 1/2).

Glacier also won both relays.

Event winners for the Glacier girls were Annie Hill, 800 (2:14.42), Taylor Lapke, 1,600 (6:13.29), Corinne Hamilton, 3,200 (12:33.08), Melanie Gassaway, shot put (38-5), Nikki Krueger, discus (110-4), Brielle Bumgarner, long jump (15-5 1/2) and Cadie Williams, triple jump, 29-9).

Glacier also won the 1,600 relay.
