WHITEFISH — Whitefish and Columbia Falls split in singles play, but Whitefish won all three doubles matches to claim the 5-2 Northwestern A girls dual tennis win on Tuesday.

“For the first dual, plenty of first-match jitters from both sides,” Whitefish coach Patrick Dryden said.

This match was rescheduled after being postponed earlier because of poor weather conditions.

In the best singles outing, Whitefish’s Hannah Madsen defeated Molly Schmit 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3.

“The most competitive match,” Dryden said.

“They had long rallies. It was well played.”

Dryden was impressed with his No. 3 doubles team of Melissa Pollard and Paige Sproul. They won 6-1, 7-5 over Kaylee Flanigan and Emily Scallen.

“A couple girls who never played tennis before,” Dryden said.

“They really picked it up for how little time they’ve had on the court. Both are good athletes.”

Pollard has competed in track while Sproul played softball.

Whitefish is back in action Thursday hosting Libby. The Cut Bank Invitational follows Friday and Saturday. Columbia Falls hosts Polson on Thursday and heads for Missoula on Saturday to face the Sentinel JV.
