WHITEFISH — Whitefish will finally get a chance to rest up before its next outing.

The Bulldogs, playing their seventh tennis dual in six days Monday, swept Bigfork.

The boys won 4-3 and the girls claimed a 5-2 victory.

“We had some high points at our top singles positions,” WHS boys coach Chris Schwaderer said.

“Freshman Max Smyley got off to a slow start at one singles and was down 4-1 when he found his stroke and reeled off 11 straight games. I am really pleased with how Max was able to make a few adjustments in his game and completely turn things around.

“He could have easily gotten down on himself, but he held on and put together an impressive run that showed his maturity,” Schwaderer added.

“Nathan Fauth also looked strong at two singles. He had a few tough matches over the weekend, but he put those behind him and played some excellent tennis. Nathan has a short memory. Each point is a new one for him.”

The win pushed the WHS girls dual mark for the season to 5-2.

“We played better in doubles,” WHS girls coach Patrick Dryden said.

“Heather (Luedke) and Hannah (Madsen) really turned it up a notch, beat a really good team today.”

Dryden said Bigfork’s top two singles players — Alanna Weilacher and Sophie Hasselmeier — were outstanding.

“They made no mistakes, kept the ball in play,” he said.

That made for long rallies.

Whitefish’s next action is Saturday in Polson versus Dillon and Polson.

Bigfork faces Superior and St. Ignatius today in St. Ignatius.
