Defense of Obama spending questioned
On Feb. 1, letter writer Edd Blackler of Bigfork made statements that President Obama is the most thrifty president in recent memory.
Under eight years of President George W. Bush, outlays totaled (2001-2008) $20.3 trillion, while under President Obama they will total $28.99 trillion (2015 and 2016 are estimated), or 43 percent more.
For Bush years starting in 2001 rounded in trillions, these outlays were 1.9, 2.0, 2.6. 2.9, 2.5, 2.7, 2.7, and 3.0. Likewise, under President Obama starting in 2009 they would be 3.5, 3.5, 3.6, 3.5, 3.5, 3.6, 3.8 (est.) and 4.0 (est.). A quick peek reveals that not a single year of Bush outlays exceeds Obama’s. The source for this is from the White House website under the Office of Management and Budget tab. The link for this information is at http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/Historicals/. Let your mouse take you to table 4.1 and “check it out.”
What is frightening is that, according to the Congressional Budget Office, after Obama leaves office, deficits are expected to rise steadily — mostly because of growth in mandatory health care spending programs like Obamacare. By 2025 the CBO estimates that our nation’s federal deficits will again top $1 trillion a year. For comparison’s sake the highest deficit ever under President Bush was $458 billion.
The CBO now estimates that Obamacare will cost $1.993 trillion from 2016 thru 2025. Medicaid expansion to cost $920 billion. What happened to all those Obama promises? They were lies!
