Tennis: Whitefish sweeps Bigfork netters

BIGFORK — The Whitefish boys swept singles and the girls swept doubles as each team topped Bigfork on the road in a nonconference tennis dual on Tuesday.

Whitefish’s Max Smyley topped Kyle Thomson at No. 1 singles 7-5, 6-1, in the closest match of the day. The Bulldogs’ Nathan Fauth, Eric Holdhusen and Cole Turgeon won handily, giving up a combined four games in their three matches.

Isaac Martel and Adam Jordt won in doubles, picking up the only win for the Vikings in the dual.

The Bulldog girls edged Bigfork in three of four three-set matches to make the difference in the dual. Heather Luedke topped Kalia Wicklund 10-6 in the final set at No. 2 singles and the teams of Katie Fyall and Anna Peterson and Paige Sproul and Melissa Pollock recovered from dropped second sets in doubles to pick up wins for Whitefish.

Bigfork’s Karlee Park won a three-set match at No. 3 singles. Lana Berg won in straight sets at No. 1 singles to pick up the other point for the Valkyries.

POLSON — The Polson girls swept Loyola Sacred Heart on the courts while the Pirate boys fell in a close dual with the Rams in a pair of nonconference matchups.

The girls were dominant, sealing the win with a three-set victory by Marlee Congdon at No. 1 singles. Mollie Lemm and Shawna Lenz each won in straight sets and Madison Reilly won by forfeit in singles.

Tim Russell won at No. 2 singles and Cadis Chowning at No. 3 singles for the Polson boys, but the Pirates struggled in doubles, dropping two of three matches. Carson McDaniel and Kaiden Forman-Webster won 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles to take the only other point for the Pirates.
