Teens trying to take tot's toys

A woman on Colorado Avenue called the Whitefish Police Department to report five teenagers came into her lawn to steal her children’s toys. Her dog barked at them and they ran off into a nearby church’s parking lot. They escaped justice, but an extra patrol was requested.

A concerned caller heard a strange noise coming from the lake early in the morning and wanted an officer to investigate. Multiple similar calls had come in, but the source of the sound remained elusive.

An employee at a grocery store on Baker Avenue called about a suspicious man who pulled up to the store and grabbed two backpacks outside the store before driving off. The police had no reports of stolen backpacks.

A Lakeshore Drive resident called about a black bear running through his property. It didn’t rummage through the trash or act aggressively, but the resident wanted to inform police.

One caller reported two men in a park bothering people. One of the men allegedly had a bottle of moonshine tattooed on his face and both looked like transients, according to the caller. They allegedly asked people if they wanted to buy drugs and were following people to see where they had parked. An officer advised the men of warrants in their names.

A man allegedly tried to fight security at a bar on Central Avenue. When police arrived, bouncers were holding the man to the ground. The calling party wasn’t being helpful because he was trying to “control the crowd.”


A caretaker called the Columbia Falls Police Department because they couldn’t locate a 70-year-old woman they had been caring for. She wasn’t at home, which was only discovered when the caregiver hopped through a window into the empty house.


The Lake County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest for driving under the influence at 12:21 a.m. near Round Butte.


Polson Police Department made a DUI arrest at 1:41 a.m. at a Polson grocery store.
