'The Force' called out for dog

An Iowa Avenue resident called the Whitefish Police Department to report a dog which “looked like a Wookiee” running around his neighborhood. The person picked up the dog but was warned that Wookiees can pull arms out of sockets and to exercise caution.

A Patton Lane resident called to report a black bear rifling through trash and then bolting across the road, presumably looking for a pic-a-nic basket.


A man called the Kalispell Police Department to report another man chasing an allegedly wanted felon on Mountain View Drive. The man told the caller that the Montana Highway Patrol told him he could make a citizen’s arrest. He was advised not to put himself or the subject in danger. Six people were reportedly chasing the man down a creek when a police officer took over for the unmasked vigilantes.

A motorist called dispatch to report a white Ford pickup truck go airborne in a roundabout at the end of Airport Road. The truck rolled, the caller said, but he wasn’t sure if anyone was harmed.

A woman called to report her live-in boyfriend might be dangerous. She said she talked to his ex-wife and she had not very nice things to say about him.


A man who was caught shoplifting was waiting for the Columbia Falls Police Department to arrive. He was “behaving himself” but reportedly started crying. He was cited and released.
