A four-story, 101-unit Marriott Springhill Suites is planned in the Spring Prairie commercial subdivision in north Kalispell.

The hotel is the first project announced for the fourth phase of Spring Prairie development.

The building will go up in the north end of the 28-acre plot south of Kalispell’s fire station.

While construction will cost $7.6 million, the entire project will cost about $10.6 million including architects, engineers and furniture.

Mike Johnson, president of Management Consultants, the hotel development company working on the project, said the hotel will be open by late May of 2016.

“It’s a great location relative to the bypass and the Kidsports facility,” Johnson said. “I think we have a great spot for future guests in Kalispell.”

The hotel will employ an average of 35 people, Johnson said, with as many as 50 employees during the peak tourist seasons, dropping down to around 25 during the shoulder seasons.

Management Consultants has hired AMI Development, a Kalispell company, for the construction job. Johnson said the project came to Kalispell by virtue of selecting a prime market and building site. The hotel will be located near U.S. 93, not far from Kalispell Regional Medical Center, Kidsports and the main route to Whitefish Mountain Resort.

Senior City Planner Jarod Nygren said plans have yet to be approved by city public works, engineering and design departments.

“At that point, once the permits are issued, they’ll begin construction as soon as possible,” Nygren said.

He estimated the permit process to take no longer than eight weeks.

Management Consultants, a Butte hotel development company, owns eight other Montana hotels including the recently built Red Lion Inn and Suites in Polson.
