Organizer calls cops over missing signs

The organizer of a brew festival called the Whitefish Police Department because as she was setting up for the event, she noticed her “no parking” signs had blown away in the previous day’s storm. The signs were replaced, ensuring a cheery, beery day.

Two panhandlers were reportedly bothering customers at a business on U.S. 93 South, so an employee asked police to move them along. They complied without issue.

A Fairway Drive resident called to voice concern about a neighbor who was “always” driving drunk. The caller thought the neighbor might try driving again later in the day and would call police officers if it happened.

An Iowa Avenue resident called about a “scared-looking” black bear running through his backyard. The bear had been trying to climb the caller’s apple trees and something had spooked the ursine invader.

A Colorado Avenue woman called the police after her ex-boyfriend allegedly tried to break down her door and threw a rock at her window. They broke up two weeks ago and tonight was the first night she had gone out, she reported. The ex-beau allegedly saw her, got jealous and began to follow her around and eventually home.

The Columbia Falls Fire Department responded to a “railroad incident” on Railroad Street at 9:21 p.m.

A man called the Columbia Falls Police Department to report a dog had bitten him while he was walking his dog. A friend of the man told police the caller was developmentally disabled and there was no break in the skin like he was claiming. Officers talked to the owner of the free-range dog, which had broken off its leash.

A resident heard what sounded like a shot or shots near a bridge and thought it might have been a group of teenagers in that direction. The teenagers said they heard the shot come from elsewhere. Several nearby homes were out of power, so a transformer blowing was proposed as the likely culprit.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest for driving under the influence in the Forkhorn Loop area at 3:58 a.m.
