Nonchalant stabbing attempt foiled in Kalispell

A man called the Kalispell Police Department after a woman on Fourth Avenue East allegedly tried to stab him and continued walking down the street like it was no big deal. He said he took the knife from her and threw it away.

A caller saw a man beating his beagle inside his vehicle on U.S. 93 North. The caller confronted the person and was told to mind his or her own business.

A pregnant woman on Liberty Street called police when she couldn’t find her 5-year-old daughter. The other children in the home didn’t know where she was either. The woman, who reported she was going into labor, told officers she was going to sit down and try to calm herself. The girl was soon found and was just fine.


A concerned animal lover on Nucleus Avenue called the Columbia Falls Police Department about a small dog in a car. The caller said the dog’s owner had been “unpleasant” to the animal, and the car’s window was only open a tiny crack. Officers found the car wasn’t hot and there was a bowl of water on the floor.

A woman on 10th Street East reported that her house had been ransacked while she was on vacation. She couldn’t see any broken windows, so they must have picked the lock, she said. Jewelry and other items had been stolen.


A medical worker called the Whitefish Police Department to report an intoxicated, red-faced, heavy-set man stumbling into the office. The man had a “bug trap” stuck to his foot. The caller said she would phone back if he returned and she felt unsafe.

A couple was fighting outside of a building on Colorado Avenue. The female was reportedly being aggressive and yelling at the male. He was trying to make her leave, the caller said, which led to more screaming. Finally she peeled out through the neighborhood.
