Bear causes a fright on Forest Ridge

| August 29, 2015 9:00 PM

A bear was digging around a garbage can in the garage of a Forest Ridge Road residence. Adding to concern was that the door to the inside of the house couldn’t be locked and the woman making the call to Whitefish Police Department said her boyfriend and son were on a motorcycle and “could come home any minute.” Eventually, the bear was treed on the corner of State Park Road.

A report came in of a person sleeping in the back yard of a West Second Street property. The man wasn’t causing any problems, but the owner wanted to clean up the property, which was listed for sale, and wanted the man to move on.

A transient was seen by the fence of a playground on East Seventh Street.

Beer was stolen on West Second Street by a man wearing red shorts and a dirty T-shirt. It may have been the same man police earlier asked to move along from an animal hospital. The man was later spotted by someone on Baker Avenue heading on foot toward Whitefish City Hall.

A lodge employee on Wisconsin Avenue saw a deer trying to jump a fence that reportedly “tore open her stomach” and was lying on the ground.

A woman on Houston Drive said a reckless driver ran over her yard supposedly on the way to a party in an “illegal vacation rental.” The displeased woman said she wanted the revelers to stop partying and driving on her lawn. The partiers were given a warning.

People carrying cans of beer and other alcoholic drinks on Spokane Avenue were advised of city ordinance and the drinks were dumped.

The Columbia Falls Police Department received a report that unaccompanied youths threw a rock into a window at a day care on Fourth Street East.

A young woman heard screaming on Nucleus Avenue. The possibly assaulted woman had abrasions on her arm. She was taken home and advised to call 911 if needed because “she refused to do anything about the assault earlier.”

An unoccupied jeep parked at a pump on Ninth Street West raised suspicions by someone who said it had blood all over it and a broken front passenger window. Arrangements were made to move the vehicle.
