Whitefish hammers Havre in grid opener
HAVRE — Brian FauntLeRoy scored touchdowns three different ways to lead Whitefish to a commanding 44-12 Class A nonconference football win over Havre Saturday afternoon.
FauntLeRoy ran for a touchdown, caught another and brought back a kickoff for a score late in the first half to extend the Bulldogs lead to three touchdowns.
“(FauntLeRoy) is one of our senior captains and he’s a great football player,” Whitefish coach Chad Ross said. “They had a little momentum and then he takes that kickoff back to make it 28-6 instead of 21-6 at halftime.”
Whitefish capitalized on a number of Havre turnovers, scoring 14 points off Blue Ponies giveaways. The Bulldogs scored the game’s first 21 points, getting a pair of touchdown runs from Chris Park in the first half.
Havre quarterback Dane Warp threw a pair of touchdown passes but failed to generate enough offense to keep up with the high-powered Whitefish attack.
“The defense was great,” Ross said. “We wanted to keep Warp in the pocket and we did that.”
Luke May hit Jed Nagler for a score early in the fourth quarter and Haley Nicholson added a late field goal.
