Man jailed for cutting monitoring bracelet

A Kalispell man is back in jail after allegedly cutting off his Global Positioning System monitoring bracelet while awaiting trial for felony charges of criminal endangerment and assault with a weapon.

Demian Joseph Blu, 38, was released from jail on Oct. 9 on the condition that he enroll in a GPS monitoring program until his case concluded.

Moonlight Detective and Security Services reported that Blu had “made no effort to maintain any fees required to maintain monitoring,” in a memo to prosecutors on Oct. 21.

“Additionally, we have received phone calls from individuals stating Mr. Blu is intending to cut his device off and ‘head south,’” wrote Charles Pesola of the monitoring company.

A day later Pesola said Blu had cut off the device. Pesola also said Blu had contacted him and stated his intention to “lay low.”

Blu is accused of taking a car in Coram on Sept. 23. A man and his brother tried to stop Blu from taking the vehicle and Blu allegedly swung a knife at them, according to court documents. The brother tried to jump onto the back of the vehicle as Blu fled, but the man was thrown from the car as it took off.

Blu was found by a sheriff’s deputy with a knife in his pocket.

Blu’s bail is set at $25,000. His case is set for a Jan. 19 trial.
