Cash prizes offered for science fair

| December 3, 2015 4:37 PM

Area student-scientists will have cash incentives to participate in the Flathead County Science Fair this March thanks in part to a $1,000 grant from Applied Materials Foundation in partnership with the Kalispell Education Foundation.

The money will be used to establish cash prizes to encourage more budding scientists and engineers, particularly at the high school level to participate in the science fair.

The science fair is March 10, 2016, at the Flathead County Fairgrounds. Students in third through 12th grades may compete in a variety of categories such as biological science, physical science or engineering design. The deadline to register for the Flathead County Science Fair is March 4.

Students in grades six through 12 who excel at the county level may compete at the Montana Science Fair in Missoula. In the past, local students have gone on to not only compete at state, but also qualify for international competitions such as the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.

The Flathead County Science Fair also is seeking volunteer judges as well as additional financial sponsors.
