BASKETBALL: Around the Valley - Columbia Falls girls start season with win, boys dumped by Corvallis

COLUMBIA FALLS — Peyton Kehr tallied 18 points and Kiara Burlage just missed out on a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds as Columbia Falls dropped Corvallis 57-24 on Saturday in Class A nonconference girls basketball play.

It was the season opener for Columbia Falls.

“The second quarter on, our defense really turned it on,” Columbia Falls coach Cary Finberg said.

“We shared the ball and took care of the ball really well tonight.”

Columbia Falls had just nine turnovers to 22 for Corvallis.

Columbia Falls outrebounded the Blue Devils 39-31.

Corvallis was held to 10 of 46 shooting from the field.

Columbia Falls standout Cydney Finberg did not play because of an ankle sprain. She will be back in action next week.

Stillwater Christian (1-1) outscored Helena Christian 30-10 in the middle two quarters to pull away for an easy Montana Christian Athletic Association victory at Stillwater Christian School.

Serena Koch led the victors in scoring with 15 points. Dori Smith and Adrianna Lambert followed with 12 and 10, respectively.

Haleigh Schwartz led Stillwater in rebounding with seven.

Lexi Ehlers scored 16 of her game-high 20 points in the first three quarters and Karissa Williams added 14 as Flathead Valley Homeschool crushed visiting Helena Christian in a Montana Christian Athletic Association matchup on Friday.

FVHS (4-2 overall, 1-0 league) outscored Helena Christian 39-8 in the second half.

CORVALLIS — Corvallis gained an advantage with a big second quarter, outscoring Columbia Falls 20-6, en route to the Class A nonconference victory.

Corvallis led 29-13 at intermission.

Tyler Murphy tallied 14 points to pace Columbia Falls (0-1). Glenn Morden was next with 10.

Isaac Neumann scored a season-high 30 points and Joe Hooker netted 17 and pulled down 18 rebounds as Stillwater (3-0 overall, 1-0 league) rolled by Helena Christian in Montana Christian Athletic Association play at Stillwater Christian School.

Neumann was 13 of 27 shooting from the field.

Stillwater led 33-16 at the half and outscored Helena Christian 23-4 in the fourth quarter.
