Caller reports a suspicious sleeper on the bike path

A 13th Street West resident called the Columbia Falls Police Department to report a man sleeping on a nearby bike path. Officers checked on the suspicious sleeper to make sure he wasn’t experiencing health problems, then sent him on his way.

An Eighth Avenue East North resident called police when he realized he was locked out of his apartment, then noticed several screens had been damaged and thought someone may have tried to break in. He also reported that he’d had some trouble with an allegedly threatening neighbor. Officers took the man to a family member’s house. Upon further investigation, the neighbor in question told police that the man had allegedly been found inebriated the night before, “face down in the snow.” He had apparently taken the screens off himself trying to access his own apartment, then passed out.

A Third Avenue West resident called police to report a stolen rifle.

Someone found a stray debit card near a store on Nucleus Avenue and turned it in to police.

A man found a bag appearing to contain heroine behind a Ninth Street West business and called police to report it and turn it in.

A Grace Road resident called to report her mailbox, as well as a neighbor’s, had been damaged overnight.

A driver on Ninth Street West called police to report a reckless driver who was allegedly cutting people off and had hit the curb several times.

An 11th Street West resident called to report a suspicious vehicle in the neighborhood. The caller said the car had driven by several times and kept slowing down. The vehicle finally stopped across from the caller’s house, but the occupant didn’t get out. Responding officers found that the driver was lost while looking for a friend’s house.

A man called to report his credit card had been stolen from a Nucleus Avenue business two days ago. Dispatchers told the man an officer would call him to follow up, and the caller became angry and began yelling profanity at the dispatcher. When officers attempted to call back, the man didn’t answer.

Officers found two young boys out riding bicycles past curfew on Ninth Street West. The boys were returned safely to their homes, and reminded about the curfew rules.


Officers with the Whitefish Police Department responded to reports of a man sleeping in front of some apartments on Colorado Avenue. The man told police he was waiting for a friend to come home. He was told to move on for the night.

A caller reported that a panhandler had “said crazy things” during a conversation they’d had the day before. The caller didn’t want to file a report, but was concerned for the man’s well-being.

A Baker Avenue resident called to report an unruly roommate allegedly yelling and screaming at her. The caller said the altercation was verbal only, but requested that an officer speak to the roommate anyway.

A man called from U.S. 93 South to report that his girlfriend was refusing to leave the business when he was trying to lock up for the night. The man said the girlfriend had become angry and hit him, and then threatened to damage his truck if she had to leave. The woman did leave before officers arrived.

A manager for a Central Avenue business called to request some extra patrols after closing. He reported there were several people loitering in a nearby parking lot and wanted to make sure they wouldn’t try to break in or cause any damage.


The Ferndale Fire Department responded to a chimney fire on Ferndale Drive.
