Glacier wins third straight speech tournament

Glacier High School won the Dusty Roads Invitational Speech Meet and finished second in the Carroll College Debate Invitational in Helena on Saturday.
Speech and debate events were separated for the concurrent tournaments.
In the speech competition at Helena Capital High School, Glacier won six of nine events to score 132 points. Flathead High School, which topped two events, was second with 103 points.
“We were neck-and-neck with Flathead until the final round. Our champions really came through in the final round,” Glacier head coach Greg Adkins said. “Not only the six champions, but also the majority of those kids who finished second, third and fourth place.”
In the debate competition at Carroll College, Glacier finished No. 2 behind Bozeman, which dominated debate competition, according to Adkins.
Individual speech champions for Glacier were Dylan Crandell in Impromptu, Nate Lorenc in Humorous Interpretation, Aleesha Hillis in Dramatic Interpretation, Hannah Tullett in Memorized Public Address, Aaron Robinson in Original Oratory and Anika Fritz in Expository Speaking.
Flathead champions were Sarah Ward in Extemporaneous Speaking and the team of Parker Kouns and Wyatt Dykhuizen in Duo Oral Interpretation.
The speech title was Glacier’s third consecutive tournament win this season.
