BASKETBALL: Bigfork boys, girls post lopsided wins in Whitefish

WHITEFISH — Bigfork raced out to a 42-point halftime lead and blasted Whitefish 67-28 on Tuesday night in the Vikings’ first game of the season.

Bigfork (1-0) led 29-5 after one quarter and stretched its lead to 54-12 at the half.

Adam Jordt scored 13 of his 14 points in the first half, and Joseph Potkonjak added 12 in the win. Bigfork shot 56 percent from the field in the game and made 10 of 18 3-pointers, including four from Potkonjak.

The Vikings out-rebounded the Bulldogs 29-17 and forced 17 Whitefish turnovers. George Gibson pulled down eight boards to lead all players and added eight points.

Jansen Anderson and Derek Kastella each scored seven to lead Whitefish (1-1).

Bigfork 67, Whitefish 41

WHITEFISH — Katie Thomas led three players in double-figures and Bigfork shut out Whitefish in the third quarter on their way to a comfortable 67-41 win Tuesday.

The Valkyries (1-0) raced in front 24-5 after one quarter and out-scored the Bulldogs 15-0 in the third quarter to build a 54-15 lead.

“It was great for our first game, we came out on fire,” Vals coach Jami Grende said. “It looks like it could be a real promising year.”

Thomas made four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points. Jamie Berg hit two triples and scored 12 points in the game. Miranda Campbell added 13.

Whitefish (1-1) scored 26 points in the fourth quarter, getting seven apiece from Haley Nicholson and Anissa Brown in the period.
