TIP-OFF TOURNAMENT: Fast start carries Vals to easy win

MISSOULA — Bigfork’s girls basketball team used a fast start to roll by Anaconda 52-31 at the Tipoff Tournament on Friday at the University of Montana.

The Valkyries led 21-8 after the first period and enjoyed a 34-13 edge at intermission. Lana Berg had 17 points and eight rebounds, Miranda Campbell finished with 12 points and six blocks and Jaime Berg added 10 points and totaled eight boards for Bigfork, which had 23 steals in the game.

Bigfork plays Hamilton today at 3 p.m.

MISSOULA — Polson fell behind early and never recovered in falling to Corvallis.

Corvallis led 11-4 after the first quarter and fended off the Pirates despite scoring only 15 second-half points.

Nichole Lake had 11 points to pace Polson.

Penny Jessop had a game-high 14 points for Corvallis.

MISSOULA — Ellie Johnson scored 16 points, Peyton Kehr added 13 and Columbia Falls used a stifling defensive effort to down Hamilton.

The Wildkats led 33-16 at halftime and surrendered as many points in the first quarter, nine, as they did in the next two quarters combined.

Kiara Burlage added eight in the win.

MISSOULA — Julian Jones led Polson with 20 points and Payton Lefthand contributed 15 as the Pirates posted a 15-point victory over Corvallis.

Polson jumped out to a 14-7 advantage and led 30-15 at the half.

Chase Jessop topped Corvallis, and all scorers, with 24 points. Tyler Nixon added 15.

Libby took control in the middle two quarters, outscoring Ronan 24-10. That gave the Loggers a 39-27 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Kasey Mock had 13 points to pace Ronan.

Joseph Potkonjak had the hot had for Bigfork, scoring a game-high 24 points. Adam Jordt was next with 16. Jonathan Landon and Levi Spanogle added nine apiece.

Braxton Hill had 20 for Anaconda.

MISSOULA — Stevensville pulled away in the second half to cruise past Whitefish.

The Bulldogs were down only nine at halftime, but were outscored 37-20 over the final 16 minutes.

Whitefish junior Derek Kastella led all scorers with 19 points.
