Dine and dash thwarted in C. Falls

Two women were caught trying to pull a “dine and dash” on a Columbia Falls restaurant. The employee who called Columbia Falls Police reported their check was about $20.

Columbia Falls police took a few calls about thefts Sunday morning. One was a smartphone stolen from a bar while another man reported a set of tires stolen from his home.

Officers responded to a business that had discovered a counterfeit $5 bill in its cash drawer.

A resident called Columbia Falls police to report trespassing when a neighbor began leaving his door unlocked so a friend could occasionally stay at his apartment. The caller said this was a violation of the apartment manager’s agreement and thought the police should know.


A worried resident called Whitefish Police after her neighbor called her with accusations of sleeping with her husband. The caller said her neighbor had made threats against her but wasn’t sure of what she intended to do.

Police were called to a report of a dead deer on Wisconsin Avenue.

Police responded to a call about a woman who was caught shoplifting but refused to leave the store after she was caught. Police later found the woman’s van running in the parking lot.

Another store’s employee called police after discovering a handful of people allegedly smoking marijuana in the restroom. The people later stood in the lobby waiting for their food order. Officers questioned and released the individuals after they admitted smoking marijuana earlier in the day, but the store employee had no proof of them smoking in the restroom.


A guest at a Kalispell hotel called the Kalispell Police Department after seeing a man take a picture in the pool area.

A woman called police after two other people accused her of stealing a pistol and held her against her will. She was able to escape and make it to a friend’s home.

A man with a bleeding face walked into a Kalispell business to report he had been cut by another man. The employee called police and locked the door, but the assailant was never found.

Around $1,000 in tools was stolen from a locked semi-truck parked along U.S. 2.

A business owner found signs of an attempted burglary on the front door. The facility was secured, but the owner wanted the call logged for future notice.

A security guard at a U.S. 93 hotel called police while he was chasing a man away. The man had been sleeping in the hotel lobby and the pursuit ended when a man tried entering a house a few blocks away. Police arrested the man on trespassing charges.

Someone stole a construction trailer and tools worth more than $50,000 from a construction site near U.S. 93 North. In an unrelated incident, a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee was stolen from the west side of Kalispell.

Police responded to a medical alert from a pendant worn by an elderly woman who had slipped and fallen on the ice covering her driveway. By the time officers arrived, her neighbor had helped her up. No medical attention was needed.
