Authorities were still searching Tuesday for two suspects who fled the scene of a Pablo shooting Monday afternoon that left one woman seriously wounded.

Flathead Tribal Police Chief Craige Couture said the victim was still alive Tuesday morning. She had been flown to Kalispell Regional Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound to the chest.

“I talked to a family member this morning and they said the person made it through surgery,” Couture said Tuesday.

Flathead Tribal Police, Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Polson Police Department and Montana Highway Patrol are working on the case.

Officers, deputies and troopers followed up on tips during the night but were unable to locate the two people thought to be involved in the crime.

“We’re following up on more leads today,” Couture said. “We have the utmost confidence we are going to get them sooner or later, hopefully sooner rather than later. It is a team effort.”

A description of the suspects has not been released, but Couture said they were believed to be in the local area or possibly in the Missoula area. The pair ditched the car they initially fled in.

Any tips about the shooting can be relayed to Lake County Sheriff’s Department at 406-883-7201.
