It’s beginning to look a lot like winter.

With a National Weather Service forecast of a 100 percent chance of snow today and pretty good chances for snow in the coming days, it’s time to grab your skis and snowboards and head to the hills. Blacktail Mountain Ski Area opens today for the season. Whitefish Mountain Resort opened Dec. 5 with a limited number of runs, but recent snowfall means the resort is heading into its busy Christmas week with improving conditions.

Whitefish Mountain completed $1.2 million in upgrades this year, including an expanded Summit House restaurant and Ski Patrol headquarters.

Both of our ski resorts are economic drivers and destinations for locals and businesses alike. Winter begins officially on Monday, so let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

The right call

We were glad to see that Flathead County changed its application process for board positions.

It probably was an innocent mistake, but applicants were being held to different standards depending how they applied. In some cases, board applicants were being asked to fill out an application form that indicated the information was mandatory. In other cases, applicants were simply submitting a letter of interest, or perhaps not even that.

Two applicants for the county Fair Board pointed out the discrepancy, and the county commissioners did the right thing, changing the policy and re-opening some board positions to ensure fairness.
