Stranded boater able to re-start engine

Flathead County Sheriff’s Office prepared to dispatch search and rescue volunteers after a man called from Flathead Lake to say that his engine had died. The man said he was 500 yards offshore, but had plenty of food and clothing to withstand weather conditions if necessary. The man was able to get his motor started before a search was underway.

Deputies contacted the owner of two donkeys after the two were spotted frolicking along Montana 82 in Bigfork.

A package was stolen from a mailbox on Prairie View Road.

A woman on Rhodes Draw reported that a family disagreement had escalated to the point that someone had threatened to hack into her computer to gain access to her business files.  

A couple called from Smokey Bear Lane in Columbia Falls to report that a landlord who had been letting them stay on the property had called and said, “Are you still on my property? I’m going to come up there and kill you.” The landlord also allegedly threatened to “send his boys” to punish the couple who were told to leave four days prior.

A lock was cut off a storage unit on Snowline Lane, but nothing was stolen.

A woman on Judith Road reported that someone had forged checks in her name.

It was discovered that a vacant house on Tamarack Woods Drive in Lakeside had been stripped by thieves, with the appliances taken. A report was logged.

A man showed up in the lobby of the sheriff’s office after a phone call in which someone claimed to be a deputy who needed to deliver a death notification, but could not come to his home because the roads were bad. The man drove to the sheriff’s office, where staff concluded the notice was a fake. The man called all of his family members and could not find where any of them had died.

A man on Hungry Horse Boulevard called to report that his former business partner had threatened him. The man said the former partner was a drug dealer. It was unclear if the two had previously worked together in a legal or illegal capacity.


Whitefish Police were notified after a person on East Second Street reported that a former co-worker was sending threatening messages.

A person reported that he or she had lost a trombone on Spokane Avenue earlier in the week.

A person walking home from a bar on Central Avenue spotted a woman passed out in her car, presumably drunk. The person was concerned about the woman’s welfare. By the time an officer arrived, the woman’s husband was on scene to drive her home.


Columbia Falls Police responded to an elementary school, where a mother tried to pick up her kids, but was found to be emanating an odor of alcohol. When an officer arrived on scene she refused a breath test, called someone to pick up her and her children, and told school staff the youngsters would be changing schools. The officer notified Child Protective Services.


A business on Third Avenue East North reported to Kalispell Police Department that a thief had made off with some deodorant.

A man called and asked to file a police report about his ex-girlfriend stealing his identity five years ago. A federal officer had reportedly told the man that he needed to file a new report where he lived now, instead of in New York, where the theft occurred.

A man on Fifth Avenue West called to report that he and his brother had been assaulted. He hung up on a 911 dispatcher. An officer located the man to log a report.

A trained seizure dog was found on Sixth Avenue West. The service dog was returned home to Fifth Avenue West.

A worker at an ice cream shop reported  a suspicious person after a man came in and went through a familiar routine of only being willing to buy ice cream from one female employee and then trying to give it to her as a gift.

A man left a business on Airport Road and his car was gone. The vehicle was found a block away, high centered on the curb. The man believed that someone took his jacket, which had the keys, and took the vehicle for a joyride.

A man on Parkridge Drive warned that his ex-wife might call the department to report a break-in. The man said she had changed the locks and he needed to recover some belongings.
