Remember the scene in “A Christmas Story” where Ralphie’s family ends up at a Chinese restaurant and the chef abruptly chops the head off a duck to please his only customers?

Christmas Day diners in the Flathead likely won’t encounter a live duck, but they can find a nice place to eat out. Several Flathead Valley restaurants are open today, whether families are looking for a Chinese or a traditional Christmas dinner.

In Kalispell, the Asian Buffet is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. IHop will be open for breakfast, from its regular 6 a.m. opening until an early 10 a.m. closing.

A few Whitefish restaurants will remain open as well, from the ski resort to the golf course.

Cafe Kandahar at Whitefish Mountain Resort is open today from 5 to 9:30 p.m., offering a Christmas dinner to resort and residential guests. The cafe does require a credit card to make a reservation, at 862-6247.

At The Lodge at Whitefish Lake, The Boat Club is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; reservations are recommended by calling 863-4040.

Grouse Mountain Lodge is open as well, from 7 to 9 p.m. for Christmas dinner. Reservations can be made at 763-4700.

Both area movie theaters, the Signature Stadium 14 in Kalispell and Mountain Cinema in Whitefish are open on Christmas. For a full list of show times call Mountain Cinema at 862-3130. For more information on show times at the Signature Stadium 14, search for the theater at www.cinemark.com
