Man charged with threatening family

A Columbia Falls man has been charged with felony assault on a peace officer and felony assault with a weapon after an incident on Brunner Road Dec. 17.

According to charging documents file in Flathead District Court, a woman called emergency dispatch to report that her husband, Stanley Hanson Jr., age unlisted, was headed to their son’s residence. The man planned to evict the son and the woman was afraid Hanson might shoot or kill the son if he did not leave. A deputy was able to make contact with Hanson by phone and could hear a female in the background say “Don’t point that at me!” The line then went dead.

A deputy arrived at a residence that was only illuminated by the deputy’s flashlight. Hanson allegedly spoke to the deputy and showed he had a pistol in his waistband.

Hanson said he was drunk, was “the one in charge,” and was not going to leave, court documents claim. Hanson then began walking quickly toward the deputy, telling the deputy to get off the property.

He allegedly said his “pistol was three-tenths of a second from going off.”

Another deputy arrived as backup and was able use a Taser stun gun on Hanson. The pistol was secured. It was found to have a loaded magazine and a round in the chamber.

A deputy spoke to Hanson’s son, who said that Hanson had waived the pistol around while in the home. The son said he was concerned for children who lived in the home. The son’s girlfriend said she had been afraid because Hanson had pointed the gun at her at one point.
