Not so sunny on Sunshine Drive
Things weren’t sunny on Sunshine Drive in Kalispell when two men tussled each other to the ground in a case of road rage. The incident was reported to Flathead County Sheriff’s Office by a 15-year-old girl who said her dad was out teaching her how to drive a stick shift. The two men knew each other from business relations and neither wanted to pursue charges. Both men agreed to shake hands and go their separate ways.
A caretaker was busy working on Columbia Falls Stage Road when a surly neighbor, who had a gun on his hip, came on to the property and yelled at him because he was cutting down trees allegedly on his property. This was not the first time the neighbor had been belligerent. He said he was concerned that the neighbor is “a loose cannon and is not sure what he might do in the future.” The neighbor said he only questioned him about what he was doing.
Someone called deputies to report a man who was completely dressed in camouflage, with his face wrapped up in a scarf, and wearing a large backpack walking southbound from a school on Farm To Market Road in Kalispell. Since the caller thought it was not very cold outside, suspicions were raised as to why he was around the school area. Officers located the man who said he was just walking home and was quite far from the school.
A man on Tamarack Lane in Columbia Falls said his ex came into his home when he was not there and took items that did not belong to her, including a painting and a baby scrapbook. The wife said the children let her into the house and said she took the items because “they are hers.”
A tenant on Cheviot Loop in Kalispell reportedly broke through the wall of a garage and stole a generator.
Someone reported a stolen Hyundai on Aussie Tree Lane in Kalispell. The caller said people were bragging that it was stolen and that they repainted it. No solid evidence to support the accusation was discovered.
Someone on Old Reserve Drive reported a very talkative dog that allegedly barks all the time. Dispatchers could hear the dog barking in the background. The caller elaborated about listening “to this dog every summer and this is the last time.” The caller was advised to start a “barking log” and officers would contact the dog owner.
A drunk man carrying a liquor bottle was sitting in a snow bank in front of a home on First Street West.
A mother on Reserve Place who was at the hospital with her son said she came home one night to find a busted-up CD someone used to try to pick the lock and that screens were taken off a couple windows. She said this happened about a year ago and entry was made.
A driver was seen allegedly smoking a meth pipe while heading southbound on U.S. 2 in Kalispell.
A sedan “almost took out two cars” on Big Mountain Road in Whitefish.
Someone near the Columbia Mountain trailhead called in about a poached deer. It was later learned that the deer had been “put out of its misery” because it had a shattered back leg after being hit by a car.
An outraged mother on Evergreen Drive in Kalispell said her ex repeatedly allows their young son to ride with him on a four-wheeler with no helmet on the highways at highway speeds.
A scared woman on North Main Street called the Kalispell Police Department to report people she found to help her move because, although they did a great job and she paid them, they came back to her house later while she was gone and “bullied their way into the house.” They allegedly told her children they were there to give her a TV, scared her children, and walked around her house.
Two packages were stolen off someone’s porch at Third Avenue East.
A man on Two Mile Drive called police because another man was making false statements about him.
It was man versus woman in the lobby of a U.S. 93 South motel. Both were arguing over a phone and the man allegedly was beating her up.
Prescription drugs were stolen by someone’s co-worker on North Main Street.
Someone in an apartment building on Lupfer Avenue wanted to talk with the Whitefish Police Department about possible drug trafficking going on in the apartment above them.
The Columbia Falls Police Department was sent on the run during a traffic stop when a man wearing all black fled the scene into someone’s backyard and hid in a shed.
A fight was reported on 13th Street West.
