Basketball roundup: Sentinel pulls away to beat Braves, 60-39

Missoula Sentinel broke open a tight ballgame with a strong second half, defeating Flathead 60-39 in Western AA boys basketball play.

Flathead (4-11 overall, 1-6 league) enjoyed a strong first half, holding a 26-24 advantage. Things unraveled for the Braves, however, in the second half as they were outscored by Sentinel 36-13.

Zaccheus Darko-Kelly popped for 26 points to pace Sentinel (7-8, 1-6). He was 10 of 17 shooting from the field.

Matt Marshall led Flathead with eight points.

Flathead outrebounded Sentinel 33-27. Cade White and Trae Habel had seven each for Flathead.

Missoula Big Sky pulled away from a 23-all tie with Glacier at the half to take a 36-30 lead in the third quarter, but the Wolfpack regrouped and rallied for the Western AA victory.

Glacier (10-5, 4-3) outscored Big Sky (7-8, 3-4) 14-3 in the fourth quarter.

Jaxen Hashley topped Glacier in scoring with 15 points. Sam McCamley hit a key 3 in the fourth quarter while Hashley scored four big points.

Nick Simmons tallied 10 points for Big Sky.

LIBBY — Eureka only had four players figure in the scoring, but that was still more than enough to give the Lions a victory over Lincoln County rival Libby.

RJ Glover knocked down 22 points and Chase Bohne followed with 18 for Eureka.

Michael Curtiss led the way for Libby with 16.

Big Sky (11-4, 3-4)held a 21-13 lead at the half.

Hailee Bennett, a junior guard, powered Glacier’s offense with a 21-point performance. She was 3 of 7 from three-point range.

Kendall Mooney had 16 points for Big Sky.

Sentinel (13-2, 5-2) held a commanding 36-13 lead at the half and never looked back.

EUREKA — Amanda Peterson scored a pair of buckets in the final minute to break a tie and lift Eureka to a nonconference victory over Lincoln County rival Libby.

Peterson had 14 points and was a key part to the Lions fourth quarter comeback.

The teams were tied with 45 seconds to play.

Shyla Stevenson led the Loggers with a game-high 16 points and Hailey Craig had 10. Erynn Thier had 10 points for Eureka.
