State indoor archery at fairgrounds
Flathead Valley Archers and the Montana Archery Association are hosting the 2015 National Field Archery Association (NFAA) Montana State Indoor and Northwest Sectionals this weekend.
Shooting begins Saturday at 9 a.m. with sessions to follow at noon and 3 p.m. at the Expo Building at the Flathead County Fairgrounds.
The competition winds up Sunday.
This is the first of three archery events in Montana this year sanctioned by the NFAA. The other two are held in the summer.
The indoor competition is a five-spot event. Archers shoot at paper targets from 20 yards, or 10 yards for children under 12.
Individuals will shoot five arrows 12 times.
Novice and professional shooters from ages 6 on up will be in attendance. Divisions are: adult, senior 50, silver senior 60, master senior 70, young adult (15-17), youth (12-14), cub/chick (12-and-under), professional, money, guest and 4-H.
Shooters can submit their scorecard from the state event for the Northwest Sectional, where they will compete against archers from Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming.
The national tournament is in Louisville, Kentucky, in March.
All-around champions from 2014 will receive their awards this weekend. Aidan Wilcox, 10, from Kalispell was the Cub Division champion last year. He took first place at the indoor, field archery and target competitions.
Lewistown held the state indoor tournament a year ago.
