Leslie Dale Foy, 85, passed on Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, of natural causes.

Les was the youngest of four boys born to the Foy family in Kalispell on Oct. 22, 1929.

He graduated Flathead County High School in 1949, qualified that fall for the National Ski Championships, but in January of 1951 joined the Navy serving in the Korean War. He served on destroyers, then an alpine ski instructor on Kodiak Island for more than two years.

Les loved to dance and met his wife Neva at the USO in Seaside, Oregon, where she worked. They were married March 29, 1954.

Shortly after his honorable discharge from the Navy in December of 1954, they moved back to the Flathead where they shared a life of more than 60 years, which included raising four sons, Guy, Dale, Mark and   Todd.

He is survived by his four sons, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many relatives.

Les and Neva danced their way through life on every occasion, from the kitchen and living room to the jazz festivals, square dance clubs, as members of the Smith Valley Grange and the Eagles Club.

He was an avid outdoorsman, loving to ski — down hill race and water ski — and loved hiking, hunting, fishing, camping and canoeing. He played the trumpet in high school, the Navy and in more bands than we can remember. He was a longtime 4-H leader, taking a lot of kids camping and traveling in the Western states. He was a Batavia School board member and taught Little League baseball for years.

Les worked many years, off and on, helping his brother Bus at the Foy’s Tire Shop. He delivered milk for Darigold, delivered mail on foot for more than 15 years and then went to a rural route for the remainder of his 34 years with the post office. At Kalispell Regional Medical Center, he was not only a longtime volunteer, but worked for 17 years in the maintenance department, while still allowing himself a couple weeks each summer to help make the county fair a success for numerous years. He devoted his last decade to the care of his beloved wife, Neva.

Les and Neva liked traveling the Western states, Canada and Alaska with a camper. They enjoyed adventures on cruises to Hawaii, with their most memorable being their 50th anniversary. They were active members of the Epworth Methodist Church.

He had a good sense of humor, liked practical jokes and loved life, which explains why he rarely sat still. There was always something to do, someplace to go or someone to lend a hand to. In the midst of so many memories, he will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5 at Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Epworth United Methodist Church, Kalispell. Burial will be at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery.
