Basketball roundup: Bumgarner, Wolfpack upend Spartans

MISSOULA — Glacier jumped in front 16-4 in the first eight minutes en route to a 50-44 Western AA girls basketball victory over the Missoula Sentinel Spartans on Friday to kick off the new year on a positive note.

Glacier led 26-20 at the half and 42-31 after three quarters.

Glacier’s Brielle Bumgarner led all scorers with 15 points. She also topped the Wolfpack in rebounding with eight.

Hailee Bennett added 10 points for Glacier.

Kylie Frohlich paced Sentinel in scoring with 12 points.

Glacier went 13 for 13 from the free-throw line.

The Wolfpack hosts C.M. Russell today at 4:30 p.m. in a nonconference game rescheduled from last month.

LIBBY — A fast start and strong fourth quarter carried Class A Libby to a victory over the Class AA Flathead JV in nonconference play.

Libby jumped out to a 23-7 halftime lead and exploded for 15 points in the final frame to claim the nine-point win.

Hailey Craig, who led all scorers with 15 points, netted 10 in the fourth quarter for Libby.

Kelsey Gillespie topped Flathead in scoring with 11 points.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Ciera Finberg tallied 17 points and Cydney Finberg added 16 as Class A Columbia Falls (6-0) whipped Class B Eureka in a nonconference matchup.

Columbia Falls was 9 of 15 from 3-point range in the first half. Ciera Finberg had three of those 3s while Cydney Finberg, Ellie Johnson and Summer Burlage had two each.

Amanda Peterson and Shay Cooper both had eight points for Eureka’s Lions.

BIGFORK — Miranda Campbell led a balanced Bigfork offense with 14 points as the Class B Valkyries defeated Class A Whitefish.

Marissa Hiza added 13 points for Bigfork, Lana Berg tallied 11 and Riley Coleman 10.

Dani Douglas and Allie Schulz had five each for Whitefish.

Bigfork (4-1) had 21 steals in the game. Hiza, Mattison McAnally and Katie Thomas had five each.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Grant Wallace scored a career high 20 points, 13 coming in the second half, to power a balanced Class A Columbia Falls squad to an easy victory over Class B Eureka in a nonconference contest.

Ty Morgan added 15 points for the Wildcats (5-1), followed by Grant Stenger with 14 and Jayce Fagerland with 10.

Wallace and Ty Morgan both had eight rebounds.

LIBBY — The Class AA Flathead JV outscored Class A Libby 16-13 in overtime to pick up the nonconference victory.

Flathead forced the extra session by outscoring Libby 19-9 in the fourth quarter.

Libby’s Collin Johnson led all scorers with 23 points.

Kye Auclaire tossed in 19 for Flathead and Tyler Johnson added 18.

BIGFORK — The defending Class B champion Bigfork Vikings scored 20 points in each of the first two quarters to run away with a nonconference victory over the Class A Whitefish Bulldogs.

Ryder Trent finished 5 for 6 from the field to lead the Vikings with 16 points.

Cody Olson and Luke May tied for a team-high nine points to lead the Bulldogs.
